Human fleas can be hazardous to health as they pass on a variety of diseases. In some people, a flea bite can cause an allergic reaction which requires immediate medical attention. They are very annoying and getting rid of them takes some time and effort. Depending on how severe the infestation is, there are several measures you can take to get rid of human fleas. Some of these are as follows:
Cleanliness is key in keeping these parasites away. Regularly vacuum all the carpets in your house and pay special attention to areas where your domestic pets frequent. Dispose of the vacuum bag to ensure that the fleas will stay away and will not re-enter your home. A regular steam clean is an even better option. Wash all your tiled or hard floors and keep all surfaces regularly dusted and wiped down to ensure all your surroundings are hygienic and clean.
Maintain the cleanliness of your pet’s bedding by washing it regularly. Treat it with a good flea spray to ensure that any infestation is controlled.
Inspecting your pets for signs of flea infestation is a good habit to develop. Have your dogs groomed by a professional. If you prefer to wash your pet yourself, do so thoroughly and use a flea comb.

Fumigate your surroundings if your infestation is severe. This will kill the adult fleas and the eggs as well. Ensure your safety by following the precautionary measures stated on the chemical product’s packaging.
Call a professional pest management company. This will ensure that you will be able to get the best treatment possible through the experts. It is not worth risking your health or your pet’s health for a few pounds of savings.
The human flea is one of six species in the genus Pulex. This parasite has a wide host spectrum and is thought to have originated in South America where the temperate climate provides it with a suitable environment to breed in. It is believed that its original host may have been the guinea pig or peccary although its habitat now includes other mammals and birds. While it prefers to feast on human blood, it has been found in dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, rats and many other similar species. Farmers working with swine are very susceptible to this type of infestation although cats and dogs have been known to spread this parasite as well.
Fleas are jumpy little critters and miniscule to the human eye so if you have an infestation of them you will probably be scratching a lot and feel very uncomfortable about them invading your surroundings. Although there are satisfactory treatments available over-the-counter, you will never get the true peace of mind that they have all completely gone, than if you are to call in the professional pest controllers to do a thorough job at getting rid of them.
